Hexagonal head Hall effect speed sensors - Technical characteristics

Hall effect speed sensors detect the rotation of any ferrous object with cracks or projections, typically gears and tone wheels. They incorporate a back-polarised Hall-effect chip that detects the variation of the magnetic field according to the full-empty position of the wheel and provides a digital frequency signal as an output.
In the double output versions, by reading the two signals A and B, it is possible to determine the clockwise or anti-clockwise direction of rotation: in particular, the direction of rotation can be determined from the advance or lag phase between two square-wave signals or from a switching signal. The speed sensors with hexagonal head allow quick mounting by screwing them all the way down.

PERFORMING ELECTRONICS

- Supply voltage: min 4.5V – max 30V
- Output signal: single, double
- Output voltage (NPN, PNP, Push- Pull), current, CAN BUS J1939
- Optional pull up or pull down resistor
- Zero speed (reading of the position even when the wheel is stationary)
- Operating frequency from 0Hz to 30,000Hz
- Signal phase shift precision ±20°/±30° (double output version)

VERSATILE MECHANICS

- Fixing method: body with hexagonal head for fixing and rebate mounting
- Material: available in metal version (brass/steel)
- Dimensions: different diameters and underhead lengths available, customizable on request
- Special versions for high pressures with sealing O-ring and increased bottom thickness
- Customizable cable and connector length

RELIABILITY

- Contactless Hall effect
- IP67 protection rating
- Immunity to vibrations and electromagnetic disturbances
- Operating temperature: -40°/+150 °
- Resistance to pressures up to 500 bar
- Protections against ESD, load-dump, overvoltage, polarity reversal, short circuit on output

FUNCTIONAL SAFETY AND DIAGNOSTICS

- Signal redundancy thanks to the integration of isolated and galvanically distinct circuits (double output version)
- Diagnostics of short circuits towards Gnd and Vcc
- Innovative "signal" ALIVE" for advanced diagnostics (the sensor transmits a low frequency signal even when the wheel is stationary)
- Optional diagnostic LED
